Each Sunday, a wonderful team of over two dozen people comes together to help create our shared liturgy—and we’d love for you to join us! Whether you’re great at guiding, preparing, or lending a hand with clean-up, there’s a role for everyone, no matter your skills or experience. Below, you’ll find brief descriptions of the different ministries available. Don’t worry—training will be provided for all roles, both big and small.

Hospitality: This team welcomes everyone, encourages the creation/wearing of name tags, hands out worship aid/bulletin, and points out open seats if it’s crowded.
Baker: The baker makes the bread for Communion using the Spirit recipe. One batch makes enough for two Sundays. Often the bread is stored in the freezer so it can be delivered to church at the baker’s convenience.
Coordinators: Two coordinators work together each weekend with tasks including: opening the doors, confirming scheduled ministers, setting out candles, bread, wine, chalices, checking the altar cloth, and more.
Communion Bread and Wine: These ministers distribute the bread and wine to the community.
Folders: An unscheduled but welcome volunteer task is to fold the worship aids each week. Anyone who gets to church by 8:30 AM is welcome to participate.
Homilist: One community member is invited each week to break open the Word from their lived experiences. The Worship Committee looks for people who have been a registered member for at least one year and active in the community or are recommended by another person.
Musicians: Singers and instrumentalists are welcome to a variety of ensembles in the Spirit community. If you have a gift to share you can speak with Marilaurice Hemlock. Additionally people of all musical ability are welcome to participate in the Piecemeal Choir, an occasional offering. This group gathers before Liturgy to practice the music for the service - this is usually announced in the Bulletin in advance.
Prayer Leaders: Two prayer leaders take responsibility each week for creating and leading the Sunday liturgy. The framework stays the same with the content varying by season of the church year and the world around us. New Prayer Leaders are invited and trained as the need arises. Prayer Leaders meet monthly to pray together, coordinate their ministry responsibilities and support one another.
Lectors: Two lectors are needed each Sunday most of the year for the first and second readings, which are drawn from both scripture and secular writings.
Video and Sound: This duo makes sure the sound and screens are working for those in the sanctuary and that the livestream is up and running for those watching at home. There are many details to this ministry, but training is offered!
Zoom Host: This host starts up the Zoom meeting for the Sunday Liturgy and interacts with those watching on line. This Ministry can be done from church or from home as leaders usually use their own device.
Tidy-up: One person each week straightens up the chairs and collects and recycles the worship aids.
Sunday Support: This crew prints the Worship Aid and other materials and helps oversee activity in the Commons on Sunday Mornings.
